Dr. Loane is the author of the award-winning book, "Following the Drum: Women at the Valley Forge Encampment." Nancy, member of WSUCC, is a former seasonal ranger at Valley Forge National Historical Park and has extensively studied more than 500 Revolutionary War–era diaries, journals, letters, returns, orderly books, and other historical records.

She was a Pennsylvania Commonwealth Speaker in 2006–2007 and has given more than 200 lectures across six states on topics including the women at the Valley Forge encampment, Martha Washington, and soldiers’ letters from camp. Dr. Loane is also a founding member of the American Revolution Round Table of Philadelphia and an honorary lifetime member of the Society of the Descendants of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge.
